this might be long...

• Finished The Young Pope a couple of weeks ago! I've been hoarding this for ages, then Captain Marvel put me in the mood for more of Jude Law's face and aaaaaah I did not expect to get SO into this show. It's sort of costume drama-y (which I'm not at all usually into!) due to the Vatican setting and All Of Jude's Outfits. I still can't figure out how I got hooked in the first place -- possibly the mixture of stunning visuals, unpredictably addictive soundtrack (ranging from gorgeously composed scores by Marchitelli to.. uh, a lot of EDM. and, in one hilarious instance, LMFAO.), and the script! I loved Jude Law's portrayal of Lenny - his sassy, bossy, i-don't-give-a-shit attitude that was entertaining as hell and left me constantly questioning his character's motivations. The rest of the cast was so beautifully fleshed out as well (i fucking WEPT when Dussolier had to die..) I'll be thinking about this show a lot for a while

Oh and did I mention how FUCKING ATTRACTIVE Jude Law is in it?

American Gods is back and it's... alright I guess? It's lost a lot of its spark since the big behind-the-scenes changes (and the absence of Gillian Anderson from the cast..) but I'm still tuning in every week

VIDEOGAMES
• Finally finished the story mode of Tooth & Tail! The last few campaigns were genuinely DIFFICULT to get through but woah! that ending! I sorta got spoiled for the plot earlier but I didn't expect them to pull it off Like That, and the little positive message in the credits was really sweet as well ♥ I'm still playing it every other day but I've found out that I am thoroughly shit when it comes to Online Multiplayer

Donut County was a blast! but waaay too short. It reminded me a lot of Katamari Damacy, similar game premises, quirky art style and humour. Had a fun couple of hours and was very glad that I decide to buy it

MISC
i'm still.. in the midst of accepting the fact that the Elis James & John Robins Radio X show is ending tomorrow. It's been a huge part of my life for the last 5 years it's been on air. In fact it's been so ubiquitous and constant in my podcast feed every week that I'd never once considered how i would react if it were to just Stop

i'm now going to type out an overindulgent list of how this podcast changed my life

• I started listening to them mainly because i liked Elis but over the course of the next few years have absolutely fallen in love with John and moreover, their friendship with one another. The familiarity and chemistry and how they just work together is such a major draw of the show, most of the time it was just like listening to chat between two friends (with the odd Kasabian track / advert thrown in between). It felt.. intimate in a way

• since then I've been to two of John's live gigs (or three, if you count the time he compered a show at the Big Purple Cow Tent in Edinburgh and chastised an audience member for shouting out niche references to email). Darkness of Robins, especially, was wonderful (re: fucking heartbreaking) to witness live

• i learnt a lot re: talking openly about my darkness and anxieties, as John does on the show. i once brought The Holy Vible to therapy - my therapist and I read aloud excerpts from the Grief Is Living chapter and we talked about coping strategies as well as learning how to accept sadness as a part of life

• ... and on the other hand, I once slid into an emotional breakdown after I first watched Elis and John's RHLSTP episode and was confronted by the fact that their's is a level of human connection i've never experienced in my adult life and, at that point, seemed unlikely to happen

• but what friendships they've brought into my life! brand new friends + a stronger bond with existing ones. big shout-out to Cris and Janine <3 oh and Lise (who i seem to bump into at Edinburgh every year..)

• the PCD community is (occasional drama aside), the best thing on my facebook feed. i love the wholesome threads and mad anecdotes eg. when Australian listener Scott visits London JUST to catch an Elis & John live gig but ends up guesting on the show and hitching a ride to Cardiff in Elis's car. both Elis and John have embraced all manner of fans because they understand what it's like to be an obsessive one (see: Elis's stories about Euros Childs, John and Queen in general)

• and speaking of which, they've certainly expanded my musical horizons! I have a renewed sense of appreciation for Gorky's, Manic Street Preachers, and Queen; the Keep It Session Sessions is one of the main reasons I got a Spotify account lol.

• they're definitely muses when it comes to my art (what little I do these days anyway lol). EMBARRASSINGLY i had a streak of fanart a few years ago that stopped abruptly when John sent me a message on tumblr PLS DON'T DO THAT AGAIN; that said, i'm definitely going to try to draw something to commemorate the show this weekend??

I mean... I know they'll still be around, working solo and together, but losing that weekly access to their thoughts and banter is going to leave a huge gap in my heart 😢

idk how to end this entry now
