a much more positive entry than the last one, i promise
the blood tests so far have come back negative, so that's less to worry about. throat is still blah, but i don't think i'm at a risk of coughing out a lung if i go back to work tomorrow. also! i'm on a thrice-daily dose of augmentin atm and gosh they're hard to keep track of when i have neither regular sleeping hours nor regular mealtimes -- more respect to my patients who keep their meds nicely sorted out, those little compartmentalised pillboxes are the best
stuff i've been up to!
VIDEOGAMES
started on Tooth & Tail! really simple game mechanisms, but bloody difficult to master. also the characters might be anthropomorphic animals but jesus christ the storyline is bleak. fun in small doses.
RADIO
i think i might've mentioned him before but once again i heartily recommend all of Alex Edelman's Radio 4 output. i've been catching up on his latest series of Peer Group and it's great! listening to the previous series was what made me want to see him live last year. he's got a really ~millennial sense of humour and he's so at ease on stage; a very funny man and an absolute pleasure to witness.
sidenote: the bit in his radio show about pissing off hiddleston fans on twitter was... a thing, i just had to look it up and Cringe. why are people like this
edited to add: episode 2x04 of peer group about him hanging out w katherine ryan's daughter made me Cackle out loud in an italian restaurant oh my GOD
TELLY
i.... bingewatched series 2 of Flowers (8 months too late!) and, well..... what an extraordinary show. i liked that the ending was ambiguous, and the flashback 6th episode with the 4:3 format made my heart ache so much.. just, wow. it made me laugh, cringe, and cry A LOT. the themes of living w someone with mental illness, dysfunctional families, dealing with mental anguish et al. hit very close to home idk even if i haven't had firsthand experience in some of those specific issues. it's so rare to have this kind of emotional response to a tv show.
also interesting to read about will sharpe's experience in writing the show
speaking of the comedy/mental illness combo (pfft), i dredged up Jon Richardson's OCD documentary to rewatch last night Because Of Reasons. stupid, overanalysing reasons lol.
the documentary itself is very much well worth a watch, i think jon's done a good job there in providing some insight into what some people with OCD really go through on a daily basis.
that aside, i want to point out the tiny segment where he reunites with his former Bristol flatmates (Russell Howard, John Robins, and a v silent Mark Olver)
cryin @ jon wanting to "save" john from russell. + ANGST ANGST COMEDIAN ANGST
anyway, a whole lot of baggage for some other day. the old Russell/Jon 6Music show is something i might want to revisit at a later date as well (i went through that entire archive when i was in my 2nd/3rd year of uni. it was a very lonely time). they just have a rly interesting friendship! that's all!!
MUSIC
uhhh the new Busted album is good! i'm really getting stuck in. it's no competition for their old albums but it's still a nice listen with a few great bangers (Nineties, What Happened To Your Band, All My Friends). it elicits such a sense of nostalgia in me lol, i totally get the sentiment they were going for.
god, i'm old.
